As the traditional Mother's Day approaches, we thought we'd try out a few ideas for places that grown-up kids could take their beloved mums. You know how it is. It can be quite a challenge if (not only) the daughter is planning a long weekend with her own mum. We've put together a few tips guaranteed to impress all mums.

A day straight out of Vogue

Mother's Day falls on 12 May this year, but you can enjoy our itinerary almost all year round. That’s because Czechia has one huge advantage. You can pack a lot of good times into just a few days here! Just wandering the world and being together!

Fun in Prague

We'll start in Prague, where you can't miss a tour of the Botanical Gardens (next to Prague Zoo), a stroll along the Vltava River or under Petřín Tower, where roses bloom and almond trees grow. You can wander the ancient little streets in Kampa, Malá Strana, or at Prague Castle.

You can get your shopping fix on Wenceslas Square and in the arcades and shopping streets around there. If you're looking for something really special, treat yourself to some luxury in Pařížská ulice. For a really great experience, discover some treasures in one of Prague's antique shops. For fashion and originality, head to Smetana Q, where all kinds of artists have their showrooms. Not to mention that there’s a café and a gallery.

For a cup of coffee and some delicious cake, try the Cubist Grand Cafe Orient, just a short walk from Old Town Square. You can even eat on a boat at the Marina Ristorante, or up on high with a breathtaking view at the OBLACA restaurant in the Television Tower.

Luxury villas

One great idea for a gift for your mum is a floristry workshop at LES and FLOWERS florist in Letná. And in any case, this whole district of Prague is well worth exploring. You can chill out in the quaint little streets, take a walk in Stromovka park, grab a drink at the Cobra Bar or have a bite to eat while enjoying the unique view in Letenské sady park.

If you're in the mood for some real pampering, head to the sauna world at Sauna Spot Dvorce, right by the Vltava River. If culture’s more your thing, you can visit the National Theatre, the DOX Gallery in Holešovice, with its fancy restaurants and bars, or the Jazz Dock club. For a truly exceptional experience, take a tour of the Müller and Winternitz Villas.

A UNESCO spa fest

If you fancy a purely wellness stay, be sure to visit the spa triangle in the west of Czechia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Karlovy Vary, for instance, you can spend wonderful days simply lazing around, walking and sipping the healthy spring waters. On the other side of the country you’ll find a spa oasis in Luhačovice, where the healing springs are a little different. More spa tips can be found here.

Near Prague it’s well worth taking a day trip to Kutná Hora, a unique UNESCO-listed town where you can enjoy everything at once: walking, culture, history and shopping.

Brno, a city packed with fun and great shopping

You can easily take the train or bus to Brno, Czechia’s second largest city. While you’re there, we highly recommend booking tickets to the Villa Tugendhat in advance (and we mean well in advance!) or to the Villa Stiassni. Have lunch at the Jakoby restaurant, take a walk around Špilberk Castle and check out the shops at the Galerie Vaňkovka shopping centre. Brno is a gourmet paradise, with plenty to offer any lover of excellent coffee, world-class cocktails and a relaxed atmosphere. You can enjoy an incredible experience with a renowned master perfumer. He’s called Alchymista and he'll prepare a custom made perfume just for you! He also has a branch in Prague.

Pamper your inner self

If you’re coming to Czechia by car and have a bit more time, take your mum (and yourself, of course) to Chateau Herálec, with luxury everywhere you look, including the restaurant and spa. You can pamper your inner self by relaxing in the renowned Resort Sv. Kateřina, where you’ll find divine peace and a druidic stone circle. You can also go to the SALORI sauna garden near Hradec Králové, while a visit to Český Krumlov will leave you amazed by its castle, tiny streets and the revolving theatre auditorium. And you can draw magical power from the Church in Panenský Týnec. This is a place you won't find anywhere else in the world!

The heady joys of lavender

And we mustn't forget the country’s lavender farms, which offer countless workshops on how to make natural cosmetics (try the Lavender Valley, Manufaktura or the Sonnentor) gardens, a cruise on the Vltava River or a visit to South Moravia with its vineyards, châteaux, picturesque countryside and great food.
